The process begins with a consultation between the patient and a board-certified plastic surgeon. During this consultation, the patient’s medical history is reviewed, and their goals and expectations for the procedure are discussed. The surgeon will explain the different types of breast implants, incision options, and placement options to help the patient make informed decisions.
Before the surgery, the patient will receive instructions on how to prepare. This might include avoiding certain medications, stopping smoking, and arranging for transportation to and from the surgical facility.
After creating the appropriate pocket, the surgeon inserts the breast implant. The implant can either be filled with saline solution (saltwater) or pre-filled with silicone gel. Silicone implants tend to feel more natural, but saline implants require smaller incisions since they are filled after insertion.
Pain medication and instructions for post-operative care will be provided. The surgeon will schedule follow-up appointments to monitor healing and remove any sutures as needed.
